The Brick Township branch of the Ocean County Library will present a program on innovations and inventions that uniquely \u201cJersey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Band-Aids. Barcodes. Motion pictures. The modern submarine. All of these life-changing inventions originated in New Jersey. Author Linda J. Barth will reveal our state\u2019s productive history in \u201cThe Garden State: Where Ideas Grow\u201d at the Ocean County Library\u2019s Brick Branch, 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19.<\/p>\n

Barth will discuss items in use around the world that mark New Jersey as a land of innovation, such as Bubble Wrap, flexible film, and transistors \u2013 plus the plethora of patents issued to Thomas Alva Edison. The New Jersey writer, teacher and tour guide has authored nine thoughtfully researched, vividly-written works that bring depth to New Jersey\u2019s remarkable history, innovations and people.<\/p>\n

Her books include: \u201cHidden New Jersey, A History of Inventing in New Jersey: From Thomas Edison to the Ice Cream Cone,\u201d \u201cThe Millstone Valley through Time,\u201d and \u201cNew Jersey Originals: Technological Marvels, Odd Inventions, Trailblazing Characters.\u201d Those titles and more are available at the library along with the anthology to which she contributed, \u201cNew Jersey Fan Club: Artists and Writers Celebrate the Garden State.\u201d<\/p>\n
