The township and county ultimately partnered to purchase the site from the church, with the deal closing in 2023. Brick also received funds from the state’s Green Acres program toward the $8.55 million purchase. Since then, it has been open to the public as preserved land.

This Saturday, residents are invited to the Pick Up Brick event to work together to clean Breton Woods from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. The community cleanup effort “is an opportunity for residents to come together and make a positive impact on one of Brick’s natural spaces,” an announcement said. All necessary supplies will be provided and volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate.

Volunteers are asked to fill out a registration form on the township’s website to participate.
