A main roadway in one of Brick Township\u2019s largest senior communities will be redesignated as a \u201cthrough street\u201d in order to allow beefed-up traffic safety measures at its 28 intersections.<\/p>\n

Blake Circle, in the Greenbriar community, was the subject of an ordinance passed unanimously Tuesday night by the township council that re-designated it in order to recognize its level of traffic. The ordinance was requested by the Brick Township Police Department following concerns over speeding as well as a lack of stop signs and speed limit signs along more than two dozen intersections with smaller streets.<\/p>\n

Blake Circle runs within an inner loop of the planned community, intersected by a number of roads that ultimately lead to its clubhouse, pool and office complex. The 28 intersections represents some that move traffic in and out of the center, as well as some that connect to an outer ring of streets. The road spans about 1.45 miles in its circulatory pattern.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt currently lacks the necessary traffic control measures for road of its size, and there are documented speeding concerns,\u201d said Councilman Greg Cohen. \u201cThe ordinance allows for consistent traffic control at all 28 intersections.\u201d<\/p>\n

The designation will allow for stop signs to be installed at the end of many of the smaller streets leading into Blake Circle so drivers know they are about to encounter a busier roadway, and will also allow the township to add more signs notifying motorists of its 25 m.p.h. speed limit.<\/p>\n

\u201cImplementing these changes is a positive step to ensuring the safety of Greenbriar residents, and a reduced to the risk of accidents at uncontrolled crossings,\u201d said Cohen.<\/p>\n
