The owner of a long-standing, but little-known helipad in Brick Township is seeking township approval to modernize the existing landing zone at a marina on Mantoloking Road, including paving the current stone landing pad, installing navigational lighting, and adding a windsock.<\/p>\n

The owner of Barnegat Bay Marina, located at 29 Mantoloking Road near the foot of the Mantoloking Bridge on the south side of the roadway, has applied to the Brick Township planning board for conditionally-exempt site plan approval for the improvements on the property, located in the township\u2019s B-2 business zone. The applicant will also seek affirmation of previously-granted relief that already exists.<\/p>\n

While used rather seldomly by any commercial entity, the \u201cBarnegat Bay Marina Heliport\u201d carries an FAA identifier of \u201c57NJ\u201d and largely consists of a paved swath of land in the interior of the marina facility. It was not clear from the public notices whether air traffic would increase based on the improvements. The facility was officially activated in the FAA database in January 2025, though it had existed with state approval as a \u201chelistop\u201d before the formal federal activation. A helistop is a simple paved area suitable for the pickup or dropoff of passengers and cargo, while a \u201chelipad\u201d or \u201cheliport\u201d implies a marked landing surface. The marina property itself has existed in the space since 1928.<\/p>\n

Notably, the facility is listed as a takeoff and landing site for the Blade app<\/a>, an air mobility platform akin to Uber that lets users easily book helicopter, seaplane, and private jet flights.<\/p>\n

The board is scheduled to consider the application at a hearing on Tuesday, May 27, 2026, beginning at 7 p.m. at the municipal complex on Chambers Bridge Road.<\/p>\n
