A Brick Township juvenile has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred early Tuesday morning, authorities announced.<\/p>\n

The accident was reported May 19, 2026 at approximately 6:50 a.m., authorities said, when Brick police officers were called to the area of Lanes Mill Road and Rhode Island Avenue in the Herbertsville section for a report of a bicyclist having been struck by a motor vehicle. Responding officers discovered that a vehicle had struck a juvenile bicyclist in the roadway and then fled the scene. The juvenile victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.<\/p>\n

An investigation by the township and county authorities found that a 2021 BMW was traveling northbound through the intersection of Lanes Mill Road and Rhode Island Avenue \u201cat a high rate of speed\u201d when it struck the bicyclist, who was traveling westbound on Rhode Island Avenue through a marked crosswalk, a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office said. Following the crash, the driver of the BMW \u201cfailed to stop, render aid, or notify law enforcement.\u201d Police ultimate determined that a juvenile was operating the motor vehicle at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n

That juvenile, whose name was not divulged, has been taken into custody and is currently being detained in the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center, the statement said. The prosecutor\u2019s office said state law precludes them from releasing the name of the suspect due to age. The victim\u2019s name was also withheld by authorities.<\/p>\n

The juvenile faces a charge of knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash resulting in death.<\/p>\n
