(Google Earth)

A nonprofit organization linked to a township church is seeking planning board approval to build a food pantry on a vacant parcel of land on Brick Boulevard.

The application was filed by Destiny Community Development Corporation. A search of federal and state documents showed the corporation is the parent of a nonprofit organization owned by the New Beginnings Church, whose building is located further north on Brick Boulevard. The application calls for the construction of a 4,080 square foot food pantry with a 2,040 square foot optional extension, along with related improvements, on what is now a vacant lot along Brick Boulevard that does not carry a postal address. It was referred to only by its legal block and lot number in the planning board application.

A review of the township tax map identifies the block and nine separate small lots as a strip of land along Brick Boulevard. It is located along the roadway, just south of Schoener Drive and roughly across the roadway from Essex Drive. The property backs up to a row of single-family homes along Tunes Brook Drive.

The planning board application states the church may require a front yard setback variance from the requirement of 50 feet, and propose 40 feet if Ocean County requires a deed dedication along Brick Boulevard, which is a county roadway.

A separate application filed by the church, which is scheduled to be heard the same night, requests approval to convert a portion of an existing food pantry at 236 Brick Boulevard to a thrift shop.

The hearing will be held June 10, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the township municipal complex.

A nonprofit organization linked to a township church is seeking planning board approval to build a food pantry on a vacant parcel of land on Brick Boulevard.
