Observers at Manaqsuan Inlet saw an unusual sight Thursday, but one which will become more familiar in two weeks. The Seastreak ferry, best known for carrying commuters to New York City, made a test run into Manasquan Inlet ahead of the launch of its new service<\/a> carrying tourists to the Jersey Shore for the summer season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is one service that we\u2019ve wanted to provide for quite some time,\u201d said James D. Barker, President of Seastreak. \u201cGetting from Manhattan to the Jersey Shore in about an hour and fifteen minutes changes the equation entirely. This is a direct trip from Lower Manhattan to the Shore with no stops, and there really isn\u2019t another option that matches it in terms of simplicity and travel time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ferries will dock at a slip at 49 Inlet Drive in Point Pleasant Beach, just around the \u201ccurve\u201d of the inlet at Loughran Point, adjacent to Red\u2019s Lobster Pot restaurant and the U.S. Coast Guard Station near the commercial fishing docks. They will arrive from\u00a0the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street in lower Manhattan starting June 19.<\/p>\n

On Fridays, the morning sailing leaves at 11:30 a.m. and arrives in Point Pleasant Beach at 12:45 p.m. The return trip departs Point Pleasant Beach at 1 p.m. and arrives back in New York at 2:15 p.m. On Sundays and Mondays, a return sailing from Point Pleasant Beach departs at 1:30 p.m. and arrives in Manhattan at 2:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate Bill Cleary and the team at Captain Bill\u2019s Landing for making this work on the ground in Point Pleasant Beach,\u201d said Barker. \u201cIt is a great arrival point, and Red\u2019s Lobster Pot is as good a first stop as you can ask for.\u201d<\/p>\n

One-way adult fares start at $69, with children ages 3-12 at $34 and infants under 3 traveling free. Round-trip tickets are $99 for adults and $59 for children. Bikes or non-electric scooters cost an additional $10 one way or $20 round trip; electric versions are $20 one way or $40 round trip. A 3% booking fee and temporary fuel surcharge of about 5% will apply.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to get this service started this summer and to see how it grows from here,\u201d Barker said. \u201cThere is real opportunity to expand and create more direct connections between New York City and the Jersey Shore, and this is a strong first step in that direction.\u201d<\/p>\n
