Brick Councilman Paul Mummolo will lead the township\u2019s governing body as council president in 2015.<\/p>\n

The unanimous vote in favor of appointing Mummolo to the leadership position came after a heartfelt nomination speech by Councilwoman Marianna Pontoriero, who praised her colleague as someone willing to \u201cfight to good fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mummolo, who replaced Charles P. Tivenan on the ballot midway through last year\u2019s election campaign, quickly immersed himself not only in township politics but volunteer opportunities. Pontoriero said she fondly recalled Mummolo working hard to help build the new community playground at Windward Beach last fall.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to leading the council into 2015 and serving the people of Brick as council president,\u201d Mummolo said. \u201cI thank you for this opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mummolo\u2019s vice president will be Councilwoman Heather deJong, who was likewise unanimously voted into the position.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe always makes herself available to the township employees, the residents, they mayor, whenever she\u2019s called upon,\u201d said Councilwoman Susan Lydecker, who served as council president in 2014.<\/p>\n

Lydecker, for her part, thanked Mayor John Ducey for helping the council during her tenure. She was honored with a ceremonial gavel and plaque for her service.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of our meetings have run very smoothly and efficiently, everyone has had their say, and real business has been accomplished this year,\u201d Lydecker said.<\/p>\n
