Brick Township will play host to a weekly farmers market beginning this spring and lasting through much of the fall.<\/p>\n

“I always liked the one in Toms River when I used to have my office down there, and I always wondered why we didn\u2019t have one in Brick,” said Mayor John Ducey, who came up with the idea last year.<\/p>\n

As officials were looking into what it would take to establish a farmers market in town, they came across a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture and applied. The application resulted in the township receiving a $40,000 grant to host a farmers market and promote it in the community, along with funding to educate residents on locally-grown produce and agricultural products.<\/p>\n

The farmers market will be held weekly between April and October at the Havens Homestead property on Herbertsville Road. The grant will pay for the infrastructure required, as well as the vendors.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s going to be a place to buy local \u2013 local fruit, local vegetables, local honey,” said Ducey. “It\u2019s also going to be another place for families to go where they can do something healthy and be outside.”<\/p>\n

Because of the grant funding, the market will come at no cost to taxpayers, the mayor said.<\/p>\n
