Brick Township Police Patch<\/p><\/div>\n

Mayor John Ducey has proclaimed the week of Sunday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 21 as Brick Police Appreciation Week and has designated it as a week to recognize and show appreciation for the service of the men and women of the Brick Township Police Department, the township said in a statement Thursday.<\/p>\n

Ducey has ordered the Brick Township Municipal Building to be decorated with blue ribbons during the week as a visible showing of appreciation and support of the department.\u00a0 Town hall will also be illuminated with blue lights during the week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe blue ribbon has become a symbol of support for the men and women who serve as police officers and put their lives on the line day in and day out to protect us,\u201d said Ducey.\u00a0 \u201cI ask all residents and businesses in Brick Township that support our police to join us in displaying blue ribbons and using blue lights during the week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brick\u2019s police department had its busiest year ever in 2014, statistics showed in a Shorebeat report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBrick Township is fortunate to have one of the finest and most hard working law enforcement agencies in New Jersey working every day to keep us safe,\u201d said Ducey.\u00a0 \u201cIt is important that we recognize the service of our police officers and show appreciation for their efforts.\u00a0 That is why I decided to set aside a week to do that specifically for the Brick Township Police Department.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Brick police department was founded in 1972 and curently has 129 sworn officers.\u00a0 Chief Rick Bergquist also oversees the EMS Unit, civilian dispatchers, special police, CERT Team and the Police Explorers. The department will be honored with a formal resolution and proclamation at the Feb. 17 council meeting.<\/p>\n
