Brick\u2019s Republican organization this week celebrated the election victory of Rep. Tom MacArthur this week, naming the newly-minted lawmaker the Brick Republican of the Year.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe helps us a lot by giving us a connection from Brick Township in Washington,\u201d said John Catalano, president of the Brick Republican Club.<\/p>\n

MacArthur accepted the award at a fundraising dinner earlier this week at Crystal Point Yacht Club in Point Pleasant that was attended by Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno.<\/p>\n

Catalano said local Republicans are happy with MacArthur\u2019s initial focus on jobs growth in New Jersey, as well as his sponsorship of a bill that helps veterans find employment after leaving the military.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, it was announced that MacArthur will serve on several key subcommittees in the House of Representatives, including the Tactical Air and Land Forces subcommittee and the Subcommittee on Military Personnel. MacArthur is also a member of the full House Armed Services Committee, a key position that could turn into a platform to lobby in favor of keeping the Joint Base open.<\/p>\n

MacArthur is also serving on the Natural Resources Committee and the Subcommittee on Water, Power, and Oceans, plus the Subcommittee on Federal Lands.<\/p>\n

MacArthur won the seat vacated by Rep. Jon Runyan, a fellow Republican, in Nov. 2014. He defeated Democratic Burlington County Freeholder Aimee Belgard.<\/p>\n
