Eight candidates \u2013 four Democrats and four Republicans, including two current members of the Board of Education \u2013 are running for four available seats on the township council this year.<\/p>\n

Incumbent Democrats Susan Lydecker and Jim Fozman will seek re-election to the council, while incumbent Andrea Zapcic \u2013 currently filling the unexpired term of Mayor John Ducey \u2013 will seek her first full term on the governing body. Bob Moore, whose relationship with his party has been rocky at times, is not seeking to run in the primary this year. Newcomer Arthur Halloran, of Sunset Lane, will round out the Democrats\u2019 ticket.<\/p>\n

Republicans this year will attempt to regain seats on the all-Democrat council. Two of the Republican candidates \u2013 Frank Pannucci, Jr. and Michael Conti \u2013 are current members of the Board of Education. Dan Toth is also running to regain his council seat after he did not seek re-election two years ago in order to run a primary campaign for mayor, which he lost to Joseph Sangiovanni. Charlie Bacon, of Thiele Road, is a newcomer to the political scene and completes the Republican slate.<\/p>\n

No Republican has been elected to a local office in Brick since 2009, when former Mayor Stephen C. Acropolis and council members Toth, Sangiovanni and Domenick Brando won seats on the governing body.<\/p>\n

Monday was the deadline for partisan candidates to file for the primary election, in June. Candidates have until June to register to run independently for council.<\/p>\n
