Lanes Mill Elementary School celebrated its 50th anniversary last week, with township and school officials marking the occasion by joining with current students and those who have graduated over the past five decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cA man from the first class, 1964, was there and drove all the way from West Virginia,\u201d Mayor John Ducey said.<\/p>\n

Students at the school decorated classroom doors to represent all of the last five decades, and the school celebrated its close-knit community \u2013 there have only been five principals over the last half-century.<\/p>\n

The one issue that remains unresolved is a possible time capsule that was buried there in 1964 to start the 1964-65 school year, Ducey said. The same man who came from West Virginia told officials that a time capsule was buried \u2013 somewhere \u2013 on the school grounds off Lanes Mill Road, but it is not apparent where the capsule is located.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf anyone was around in \u201964, if you could let the principal know, they\u2019d love to have another celebration,\u201d Ducey said.<\/p>\n
