Brick Township celebrated Gene Donatiello Day yesterday, the latest honor for a man who has served his community for decades and whose work will help future generations of township residents know where they came from.<\/p>\n

Donatiello, the township historian, had May 13 declared as his \u201cday\u201d by Mayor John Ducey a day earlier. The proclamation recognized Donatiello\u2019s long service to the community as a teacher, a founding member of the Brick Township Historical Society and of the Brick Township Historical Preservation Commission and the author of several books including two of the popular \u201cImages of America\u201d books about Brick.\u00a0 It also mentioned his recently being presented with the Pauline S. Miller Lifetime Achievement Award<\/a> in Ocean County History.<\/p>\n

At the society\u2019s 39th Annual Installation Dinner, also held on May 12 at Charlie Brown\u2019s Restaurant in Toms River, Ducey installed the group\u2019s new officers:\u00a0 Greg Duffy as president, Dorothy Holtzman as Vice-President, Margaret Osborn as Treasurer, Kathy Keleher as Corresponding Secretary and Elaine McGuire as Recording Secretary.<\/p>\n

Gifts were given to retiring officers, Ed Mangold, the past president, and Ann Julian, the past Recording Secretary.<\/p>\n
