Around the World in 1909 \u2013 Harriet White Fisher and Her Locomobile<\/p><\/div>\n

An author from Brick Township has released her latest title, a biography of New Jersey transportation and automotive pioneer Harriet Fisher.<\/p>\n

Lisa Begin-Kruysman\u2019s Around the World in 1909: Harriet White Fisher and Her Locomobile<\/em>, will also appear at the Brick library June 16 to discuss the book, which chronicles the remarkable journey of the fiery and intrepid New Jersey anvil industrialist, Harriet White Fisher, who set her sights on experiencing the world in a motor car.<\/p>\n

In July of 1909, after purchasing a state-of-the art Locomobile, Fisher embarked on a journey accompanied by her driver, Harold Brooks, British butler Albert, Italian maid Maria, and a young Boston bull terrier named Honk-Honk.<\/p>\n

During the course of their 13 month-long, 22,000 mile voyage, Fisher and her companions explored remote corners of the earth where no man, woman or domesticated house pet had ever ventured. Whether camping in the wilds of India, or relaxing in the posh palaces owned by royal dignitaries, the brave band of unlikely travelers met new challenges during each leg of their trip.<\/p>\n

Begin-Kruysman will discuss her collaboration at the library appearance with a descendant of one of the trip\u2019s automotive explorers. A Brick resident, she has has authored several popular books, including Something\u2019s Lost and Must be Found (a collection of dog-centric short stories inspired by her blog), Full Snow Moon (a young adult novel), When We Fostered Furley (grades 3-5), and Dog\u2019s Best Friend: Will Judy, Founder of National Dog Week. All titles are available through the Ocean County Library System.<\/p>\n

The library appearance will take place Tuesday, June 16th at 7 p.m. at the Brick Township Library, 301 Chambers Bridge Road.<\/p>\n
