(Photo: Daniel Nee)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The homeowners\u2019 advocacy group Stop FEMA Now will host a panel of flood insurance experts this coming Saturday in Brick to help residents decide whether to reopen their flood insurance claim.<\/p>\n<p>FEMA has committed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorebeat.com\/brick\/2015\/03\/every-sandy-flood-insurance-claim-will-be-reopened-fema-pledges\/\">reopening all 144,000 claims<\/a> under the National Flood Insurance Program due to fraudulent engineering reports that resulted in homeowners receiving too little money following Superstorm Sandy. But many homeowners have been wondering whether or not it would be a wise decision for them to follow FEMA\u2019s process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere really is no downside,\u201d said George Kasimos of Toms River, the founder of Stop FEMA Now. \u201cYou should definitely reopen your case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Homeowners who are seeking additional information can come to a rebuilt home in Brick\u2019s Baywood section Saturday, June 20 at 12 noon. The event will be held at 144 Valencia Drive.<\/p>\n<p>Kasimos holds the view that there is \u201cnothing to lose\u201d for homeowners, and a lack of reopened claims could lead FEMA to rethink it\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we only open up 500 claims, FEMA\u2019s going to come back and say, \u2018We made some small mistakes. No big deal,'\u201d Kasimos said. \u201cBut if we open up tens of thousands of claims and instead of them having to refund 15 or 20 million dollars, it\u2019s 500 million or a billion dollars \u2014 some big number \u2014 then somebody in Congress is going to say, \u2018These FEMA people are incompetent!
