The Jersey Shore Council of the Boy Scouts of America will honor Mr. and Mrs. Ed Buecker with their \u201cGood Turn Award\u201d later this month.<\/p>\n

Each year, the council hosts a Garden Party where the honoree receives the award, and this year the Bueckers are being honored for the years of good work they have done through the Bobby Buecker Foundation<\/a>, in honor of their son Bobby, who died in 1998 at age 15. The award will also be presented to Evalynn Shippee, owner of The Jolly Tar store in Bay Head.<\/p>\n

The award was announced by Brick Police Chief Nils R. Bergquist, who chairs the award committee. Bergquist was also the subject of thanks in a statement released by the Jersey Shore Council.<\/p>\n

\u201cChief Bergquist recognizes the importance of scouting, and that is evident by our participation and his continued support of the Brick Township Police Departments Law Enforcement Explorer Post and Club, which are open to all Brick Township High School and Middle School students,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

The Bobby Buecker Foundation helps fill the gaps<\/a> that other nonprofit organizations frequently miss, such as meals, travel expenses, or some help with bills. The organization began after Bobby died, when\u00a0the family found themselves with a large amount of money the community had raised to help them during his illness. Instead of spending it, they decided to help other families facing what they had already lived through, and the foundation was born.<\/p>\n

The award will be presented July 12 at the home of John Catalano, a Brick resident who is hosting the garden party.<\/p>\n
