Brick Township Board of Education\/Schools (Photo: Daniel Nee)<\/p><\/div>The deadline to file petitions to be a candidate for the Brick Township Board of Education is coming up soon, county officials said this week.<\/p>\n

Nominating petitions must be turned in to the Ocean County Clerk\u2019s office by July 27 at 4 p.m., County Clerk Scott Colabella said. All of Ocean County\u2019s school districts, including Brick, took advantage of a law enacted in 2012 that allowed Board of Education candidates to be elected in the general election in November. School board elections were previously held in April.<\/p>\n

This year, four seats on the Brick school board are up for grabs \u2013 three regular term seats and the unexpired term<\/a> of former board member John Talty.<\/p>\n

Nominating petitions for school board can be obtained in person at either the Ocean County Clerk\u2019s Main Office, at the Ocean County Courthouse, Election Services, Room 107 at 118 Washington Street, Toms River, or at the Ocean County Southern Service Center, 179 South Main Street (Route 9), Manahawkin.\u00a0 The offices are staffed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cA law signed by the governor last year moved the petition filing deadline for school board candidates from June to the last Monday in July to provide candidates with more time to submit their petitions,\u201d Colabella said.<\/p>\n

School board candidates seeking additional information on the petition filing process can contact the Ocean County Clerk\u2019s Election Office at (732) 929-2153.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important for candidates to get their paperwork in on time,\u201d Colabella said. \u201cThat is what guarantees their place on the ballot.\u201d<\/p>\n
