Flora to fill a vacancy on the board through December. Among those who applied are Thomas Gialanella, the former superintendent of the Jackson school district who also served as interim superintendent of the Toms River Regional school district.<\/p>\n<p>Gialanella is a long-time Brick resident who is a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brickschools.org\/Schools\/BrickTownshipHS\/BTHSWallofFame\/Inductees\/ThomasGialanella.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Brick Township High School Hall of Fame<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The board seat is being filled by Flora since the six remaining board members in Brick deadlocked on either appointing Talty back to his seat, as he requested, or appointing another candidate who applied. The board, at one point, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorebeat.com\/brick\/2015\/06\/brick-boe-deadlocks-on-7-separate-votes-to-fill-vacant-board-seat\/\" target=\"_blank\">took seven votes on the matter in one night<\/a>, all of which resulted in 3-3 ties.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Gialanella, the candidates who applied to temporarily fill the seat include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>John Baum, Jr.<\/li>\n<li>Walter F. Campbell<\/li>\n<li>Christopher Falkiewicz<\/li>\n<li>Leonard Figula<\/li>\n<li>Vito Gagliardi<\/li>\n<li>Barry Kinsberg<\/li>\n<li>Michael Merlucci<\/li>\n<li>Larry Reid<\/li>\n<li>John Talty<\/li>\n<li>Lois Turner<\/li>\n<li>Matthew Venezia<\/li>\n<li>George White<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The candidate selected by Flora will not serve long.
