(Photo: Daniel Nee)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Brick Township Democratic organization has selected Lisa Crate, a 20 year resident of the township, to replace Susan Lydecker in the race for Brick Township Council, party officials said.<\/p>\n<p>Crate, a teacher at Christa McAuliffe Middle School in Jackson Township, is also a parishioner at the Church of the Epiphany in Brick and a member of the board of Tooney\u2019s Last Resort Animal Rescue.<\/p>\n<p>Crate has entered an important election for both sides of the political aisle in town. Four seats, a majority of the council, are up for grabs. Republican officials have told Shorebeat that the party is planning to meet this week to fill the vacancy left when Dan Toth <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shorebeat.com\/brick\/2015\/08\/toth-criminal-charges-false\/\">bowed out of the council race<\/a> after he was charged with two crimes related to an allegation made by a minor in Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>Should Crate and her running mates Jim Fozman, Art Halloran and Andrea Zapcic win in November\u2019s election, the Democrats will maintain complete control over the council and the mayor\u2019s office. Crate was added to the ticket at a meeting held Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince John Ducey was elected Mayor in 2013, a lot of things have been going right in Brick,\u201d Crate said in a statement issued by the local party organization. \u201cThe successful new Farmer\u2019s Market is a source of pride for all of us. Events like Bricktoberfest and the Friday Night Drive-In Movies are building our sense of community. New businesses like the Meridian Health and Fitness Center and PJ Sweeney\u2019s Irish Pub are choosing Brick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Crate and her family live in the Midstreams neighborhood in town.
