The Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office has identified the man fatally wounded<\/a> in an incident involving Brick police as Julian Hoffman, 21, a township resident.<\/p>\n

The officers involved in the shooting were identified as Officer Jay Nye, 31, a member of the department since 2011, and Ryan Osborn, 25, a member of the department since 2013. Both officers, who are assigned to the patrol division, are on paid administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation, according to Police Chief Nils R. Bergquist.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe investigation continues and all efforts will be made to expedite its completion,\u201d said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

Della Fave further requested both members of the press and the public refrain from speculating on the facts surrounding the shooting.<\/p>\n

\u201cA full account of the evidence and circumstances surrounding the shooting will be released at the conclusion of the investigation,\u201d Della Fave said.<\/p>\n

Hoffman\u2019s encounter with police occurred Sunday night at about 10:50 p.m., officials said. At that time, officers were called to the Cherrywood Farm condominium complex off Lanes Mill Road after a man called 911, stated he was \u201cgoing to create a disturbance,\u201d and immediately hung up, according to a statement from Della Fave.<\/span><\/p>\n

Upon their arrival, the officers were confronted by a white male approaching them from the residence of 47 Cherry Wood Circle with what appeared to be a black semi-automatic hand gun, the statement said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the subject failed to comply with the officers\u2019 orders to drop the weapon, they discharged their duty weapons, striking the armed male several times fatally injuring him,\u201d said Della Fave.<\/p>\n
