Ocean Medical Center will soon kick off construction on a 22,000 square foot renovation project that will create a new cancer center, hospital officials said this week, along with an announcement that an anonymous donor has pledged $1 million toward the project.<\/p>\n

The cancer center at the Brick-based hospital, part of the Meridian Health network, is slated to open during the fall of 2016, officials said. The project will include the 22,200 square foot renovation on campus and a 6,500 square foot addition off-campus, which will provide \u201ca state-of-the-art healing environment for outpatient treatment and services,\u201d the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The donation was provided through the Ocean Medical Center Foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThough this is an anonymous gift, it\u2019s our understanding that the donor lost a loved one to cancer and was inspired to give back as part of their healing process,\u201d said Joseph Stampe, president of Meridian Health Affiliated Foundations. \u201cAs we learn more about the health and healing benefits of giving, we hope this very special donor inspires others to honor loved ones in such a meaningful way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The cancer center will ultimately consist of the newest radiation technologies \u2013 including a TrueBeam linear accelerator \u2013 20 new infusion stations in a comfortable healing environment, and a multi-disciplinary oncology suite that promotes \u201cconvenient evaluation by a team of cancer physicians all during one visit,\u201d the company has said.<\/p>\n

The Ocean Medical Center project is a portion of a larger, $128 million expansion<\/a> of cancer treatment services Meridian is undertaking in Ocean and Monmouth counties.<\/p>\n
