Brick Township police officers, officials and residents were mourning the death of Officer Kris Demarco after he died Saturday following a battle with pancreatic cancer, department officials said.<\/p>\n

Demarco, 38, had been an officer since 2003, having graduated from\u00a0the Ocean County Police Academy Class No. 81.<\/p>\n

During the course of his career, Demarco\u00a0was assigned primarily to the midnight shift, where he served as a Field Training Officer. He\u00a0also served the Brick Township Police Department as a background investigator and as an assistant to the department\u2019s Training Unit. <\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, the department said in a statement, Demarco was a member of the department\u2019s elite\u00a0Special Emergency Response Team since Jan.\u00a02007. He\u00a0was also assigned to the Ocean County Prosecutor\u2019s Office Special Operations Group from 2009 to 2010.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Demarco\u00a0served the Policeman\u2019s Benevolent Association Local #230 as the Financial Secretary on the PBA\u2019s executive board and he was an active member of numerous charitable committees. Demarco\u00a0earned the Policeman of the Year Award in 2007. He also earned several other awards and Chief\u2019s Certificates during the course of his decorated career which include:<\/span><\/p>\n
