(Credit: Google Maps)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>State officials have announced a series of closures of the Route 88 bridge over the Point Pleasant Canal next week due to replacement of the steel bulkhead that lines the banks of the canal.<\/p>\n<p>The start of the project will be \u201csometime during the week of January 25th, 2016,\u201d borough officials said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>The state requires that closures be done at night, and the contractor replacing the bulkhead\u00a0anticipates a minimum of five nightly closures. The work is subject to weather and tides, therefore\u00a0there is no set schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Traffic over the Route 88 bridge will be detoured to the Lovelandtown Bridge, on Bridge Avenue. Sign boards will be deployed on each side of the Route 88 bridge advising motorists of the closures and detours to follow.
