(Photo: Daniel Nee)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A week after being legally \u2013 and privately \u2013 sworn in as Ocean County freeholder by county counsel Jack Sahradnik, Virginia Haines was welcomed to the county\u2019s governing body Wednesday with a bit more fanfare, with Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno on hand to administer the oath of office.<\/p>\n<p>Haines, a former state assemblywoman and lottery director, was appointed by the county\u2019s Republican organization to fill the seat of former Freeholder James Lacey, who resigned Dec. 31, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s hit the ground running,\u201d said Freeholder Gerry Little, who handed off his post as liaison to the county\u2019s Board of Social Services to Haines. \u201cGinny\u2019s a delightful person to work with, and we wish her all the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Little, in turn, has taken over Lacey\u2019s duties as liaison to the county road department.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGinny Haines is one of the most important people ever to fill a new seat on the Board of Freeholders,\u201d said Freeholder John Bartlett, the senior member of the all-Republican body. \u201cWe have never seen anyone come to the board with the breadth of experience Ginny has. Haines had many friends in the audience, including former state Sen. John O. Bennett, who briefly served as acting governor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis board I now sit on has made Ocean County the number one county in the state of New Jersey, and with my support, we will continue to be the number one county in New Jersey,\u201d said Haines.<\/p>\n<p>Haines has indicated she plans to run for election to a full term on the freeholder board in November.
