Brick Township recognized Officer Mark Storch as the police department\u2019s Officer of the Year this week, an annual honor that, this year, was bestowed upon the 13 year veteran of the department.<\/p>\n

Storch was selected for the honor for his work on the job as well as off. He serves on the department\u2019s Special Emergency Response Team, is a member of the Ocean County Sniper Team and also serves with the Brick police marine and bicycle units. He is a trustee in Policemen\u2019s Benevolent Association Local 230 where he serves as a member of the organization\u2019s special events and road job committees. He is also an active member of Brick PAL.<\/p>\n

Detective Thomas Cooney is this year\u2019s recipient of the Lt. Thomas McNelis Award, which is given each year to an officer who serves in a supervisory or specialized role in the department.\u00a0The award recognizes a member of the department who brings acclaim upon himself, the department and the law enforcement profession. Cooney was awarded the honor after handling 175 cases last year, making 13\u00a0arrests and closing and clearing 34 investigations with an arrest. His cases ranged from burglaries and thefts to sexual assaults.<\/p>\n

Cooney is also a member of the Special Emergency Response Team, and he also serves as recording secretary at PBA Local 230. He also serves with the police department\u2019s honor guard and with the PBA\u2019s awards, helping hands, scholarship and survivor relief committees.<\/p>\n
