Brick police officers who noticed two suspicious men running out to their car, then speeding out of the Kohl\u2019s shopping plaza at a high rate of speed have charged the pair with numerous offenses after it was determined they tried to purchase gift cards with phony bills.<\/p>\n

The men, later identified as\u00a0Alfonso Forney, 30,\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Bryan Hyman, 26, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., have been charged with numerous offenses after\u00a0<\/span>Sgt. Paul Catalina was able to conduct a traffic stop on the black Honda the pair were driving in Brick Plaza, across the street from the Shop Rite store where they tried to pass the counterfeit bills. Shop Rite staff denied them the gift cards they had been seeking. The officers who spotted them were members of the department\u2019s Selective Enforcement Team.<\/span><\/p>\n

While Officers Ryan Talty and Dominick Puccio were speaking to the men,\u00a0it was determined that Forney, who initially said his name was Michael Crowder, had an active NCIC Warrant from Maryland for possessing forged currency.<\/span><\/p>\n

Forney was charged with forgery and hindering apprehension with bail set at $30,000 cash,\u00a0plus motor vehicle violations for reckless driving, careless driving, driving while suspended, failure to yield the right of way and failure to stop or yield.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hyman was charged with forgery with bail set at $30,000 cash.<\/p>\n

Both men were lodged in the Ocean County Jail.<\/p>\n

According to police, the men\u00a0were in possession of $1,400 in counterfeit bills and several gift cards that were believed to have been purchased with counterfeit currency.<\/span><\/p>\n
