The Board of Education unanimously approved lunch prices at its meeting Thursday night.

The school cafeteria program ended the 2015-16 school year in the black by about $2,000. Several years ago, Edwards said, the district was under threat of having to bid out cafeteria services since a state law requires districts to do so after being unprofitable for a number of years in a row.

Responding to a question by resident Vic Fanelli as to why the district won’t increase its prices to make a larger profit, Edwards said the point of the lunch program is not profit, but simply providing food for students.

Breakfast prices range from $1.60 for elementary students to $2.10 for high school students. Lunch prices are $2.85 for elementary students, $3.10 for middle school students and $3.35 for high schoolers. Students who received reduced price lunches pay 30 cents for breakfast and 40 cents for lunch, regardless of grade level.

The board also approved contracts for milk, pizza and cafeteria cleaning products. In all three categories, prices remained the same as last year, Edwards said.

The district will pay $184,224 to Cream-O-Land Dairy for milk, $114,750 to Domino’s for pizza and $11,582 to Eco Lab for cleaning products.

Parents won’t have to dig deeper in their pockets to come up with their children’s lunch money this coming school year.
