The first phase of a program created by Mayor John Ducey to repave numerous isolated streets in Brick will go forward shortly, officials said.<\/p>\n

Isolated streets, Ducey said, are streets that are in bad physical condition but are surrounded by streets that are in good condition. Normally, paving projects are completed on a neighborhood basis rather than on an individual basis since the latter comes with a higher cost.<\/p>\n

“These streets would never be a part of a paving project for 15 or 20 years,” said Ducey. “We decided that we had to get some of them paved, because they were in awful, awful shape.”<\/p>\n

The township designed the project last year and funded its physical construction under this year’s capital budget, Ducey said.<\/p>\n

The first streets to be paved under the program are\u00a0Firehouse Road, Shore Drive, Plaza Terrace West, Ridge Road and G Street.<\/p>\n

A contract for the work was awarded to Esposito Construction, of Old Bridge, for\u00a0$516,754. Esposito’s bid was the lowest of eight, Ducey said, which topped out at $699,905.<\/p>\n

Ducey said township officials have\u00a0a running list of isolated streets that need work, and hope to fund additional projects in the future.<\/p>\n
