A deal in the works for months to combine the construction inspections and code enforcement in Lavallette and Seaside Park is nearly complete.
Lavallette will be the lead agency in the shared services agreement, under which construction, zoning and code enforcement services will be combined.
“It is transitioning pretty smoothly,” said Lavallette Councilwoman Joanne Filippone, who helped organize the deal along with Borough Administrator John O. Bennett. “It is a big undertaking that Mr. Bennett and I have worked very hard on.”
Lavallette’s borough attorney was instructed this week to prepare a formal agreement that will be signed by officials in both towns, which have relying on part-time inspectors since inspectors on loan from the state were removed this year after a Sandy recovery program ended.
Filippone said there will be a reshuffling of personnel in the borough’s building department, however no jobs will be impacted until after the new year.
“There are some part-time people on staff who are likely not to remain once we combine services,” Filippone said while previously discussing the shared services program.
Lavallette officials have said that salaries of inspectors will be shared between the two communities, and inspectors who work on a part-time basis in both towns will likely have their hours changed.
