The dog days of August are arriving soon.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat watch for the Shore area from Aug. 11 (Wednesday) at noon to Aug. 13 (Friday) at 8 p.m. The advisory statement calls for “dangerously hot conditions with heat index values around 105 degrees possible.”
“Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities,” the statement went on to say.
According to the overall NWS forecast, highs will top out in the mid-90s over the course of the three-day heat wave. There is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Wednesday, another chance in the early morning hours Thursday and a third chance Thursday night. It will otherwise be partly cloudy, turning mostly sunny on Friday.
The 90-degree weather will continue into Saturday before cooling to 83 degrees for a high on Sunday.
