Verizon has proposed to re-install a temporary 70-foot mobile communications tower along Route 35 for another summer season.
Toms River’s planning board will consider the application by the wireless provider at its April 19 meeting. Verizon is proposing, as it has for several years in a row, the 70-foot tall tower at 3131 Route 35 North, a privately-owned property that houses a boat yard and marine repair facility.
The ballast-mounted wireless telecommunications tower along with related equipment at ground level, would be in place from May 1, 2023 to Oct. 31, 2023, according to an application filed by Verizon. What is essentially an identical application has been approved by the planning board in both 2021 and 2022.

The temporary tower will require the board to grant variances prior to approval, including minimum front yard setback, minimum side yard setback, and certain design waivers (such as the installation of sidewalks and other accessories) since the tower is only a temporary structure. The position of the tower will be unchanged from previous seasons.
Verizon will pitch its plan to the board April 19 at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at the township’s municipal complex on Washington Street.
