A self-storage facility near the eastern end of Route 37 in Toms River has received approval to expand.
The township’s planning board approved a plan by Extra Space Storage, Inc. to expand their facility at 3200 Route 37 West, located just east of the turn-off onto Fischer Boulevard.
The approval, memorialized late last month, permits the Extra Space to construct a new, three-story mini warehouse self-storage building of 39,050 square feet to be used in conjunction with the existing Extra Space Storage warehouse operation on the property, along with associated parking, stormwater, landscaping and related site improvements.
As it currently stands, the facility is located on a 123,062 square foot property. It contains two self-storage buildings – one building also includes a small office – and a vacant, vegetated area. The new building approved by the board will be constructed in the now-vacant, vegetated area.
The board ratified existing design waivers and variances, and granted new ones, though most were routine “bulk” variances concerning building coverage, the width of drive aisles, landscaping design and the number of parking spaces available site-wide.
