Lavallette’s annual spring beach sweep, part of a coastwide effort organized by environmental advocates Clean Ocean Action, will be held April 12, 2025, officials said.
Lavallette Council President Anita Zalom, who has long served as captain of the local cleanup effort, shared details this week. Lavallette has historically had one of the largest contingents of volunteers come out to clear litter and refuse from local beaches before the summer begins, as part of the multi-town event.
The cleanup will begin at Philadelphia Avenue from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The beach sweeps not only remove unwanted items from the sand, but also generate data that is used to help form new policies and laws with regard to the coastal environment. Volunteers note the items they find, and the data is then compiled to find trends up and down the Jersey Shore.
Volunteers can also receive a free gift card from the borough’s Dunkin’ Donuts store, a longtime supporter of the beach sweeps.
Zalom is joined as captain by Councilman David Finter, as well as by the Greer family this year.
