Lavallette officials on Monday night unanimously approved a resolution implementing a youth curfew for the 2022 summer season.<\/p>\n

The curfew comes on the heels of a similar measure being passed in Toms River following complaints of raucous behavior on the part of hundreds of teens who gathered Memorial Day weekend and allegedly caused property damage and were intoxicated. This is the third year in a row Toms River is implementing a curfew, leading Lavallette to do the same.<\/p>\n

Under the curfew, which utilized a proclamation of a local emergency, the curfew for those under age 18 will run from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. There are exceptions for those accompanied by an adult or traveling for work or school purposes.<\/p>\n

Officials said there have not been any incidents involving unruly juveniles this season, however in the past, large groups did congregate after Toms River implemented a curfew, leading to reports of vandalism and foul behavior.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s just precautionary,” said Mayor Walter LaCicero. “When Toms River implements theirs, it leaves open an opportunity for the trouble to come here, and it\u2019s something we\u2019ve done in the past.”<\/p>\n
