(Photo: Daniel Nee)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The decision on where to open access points, officials said, primarily have to do with the health of the dunes and beach berm \u2013 the sand leading to the water \u2013 on a particular street. Elizabeth Avenue, as it stands now, is not a candidate for an opening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The integrity of that dune is so bad \u2013 in my opinion \u2013 we should be planting double, triple the amount of dune grass in that area,&#8221; said Councilman Robert Lamb. &#8220;From Newark to Princeton, the dune grass is washed out and it hasn\u2019t come back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Putting an opening there, and maintaining an opening, will make that area worse,&#8221; added Borough Administrator Christopher Parlow.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1169\" style=\"width: 628px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1169\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1169\" src=\"https:\/\/shorebeat.com\/lavallette-seaside\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/DSC_0344-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"Lavallette's beach at Elizabeth Avenue. (Photo: Daniel Nee)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Mayor Walter LaCicero said there is room for discussion on where entrances are placed, but ultimately, officials will have to see how the beaches recover from winter storm as sand currently making up the near-shore sand bar is dispersed back to the berm by the spring tide cycle.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We put the entrances as close to those beaches as we can possibly get,&#8221; LaCicero said. &#8220;It\u2019s quite possible there\u2019s going to be some shifting in those beaches, and then we\u2019ll shift the entrance.
