Lavallette is experiencing a banner year at its beachfront, surpassing revenue figures from last season as the borough heads into the final stretch of summer 2022.<\/p>\n

Councilman Michael Stogdill said through Monday, the beaches generated $1,237,000 in revenue for the season, up about $20,000 from last year at the same point.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ll see what the last couple of weeks bring, but this season has definitely been different from the last two,” he said. “Before Covid, this was the week where things traditionally started to wind down. But we\u2019ll see what happens this year.”<\/p>\n

Late August is also the time when those who work as lifeguards usually begin heading back to college or full-time jobs. Beachgoers can expect fewer beaches to be open for swimming come next week.<\/p>\n

“This week we\u2019ll have all our stands manned through the weekend,” said Stogdill. “We\u2019ve already started losing guards, so next week, Monday through Friday, we\u2019re anticipating six to seven stands will be up.”<\/p>\n

Stogdill said the stands will be placed at the safest places to swim, depending on the conditions and position of sandbars and rip currents.<\/p>\n

“Please have some patience, work with us, and if it\u2019s not where it usually is, we just don\u2019t have the manpower,” he said. “It happens every year to some extent, but our beach patrol is feeling it like everyone else.”<\/p>\n

Officials expect the full roster of guards to return for the long Labor Day weekend, at which time all regularly-opened beaches should be operating.<\/p>\n
