The wireless provider AT&T has proposed the installation of 16 cellular antenna arrays on top of a hotel overlooking the borough’s boardwalk.<\/p>\n

New Cingular Wireless PCS LLC, the corporate entity that is now known as AT&T, has proposed 16 telecommunications antennas and mounts on the roof and bulkhead of the Aztec Ocean Resort, located at 901 Boardwalk at Sherman Avenue. The project, according to a planning board filing, also includes the installation of “related equipment cabinets and an emergency generator on a proposed rooftop platform on a lower roof, related cable connections and other related appurtenances and improvements.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The motel is located in the Resort Recreational zone and requires a number of variances that necessitates a planning board hearing. The major variance is a use variance, which requires a supermajority of board members voting in favor of the project and the burden of AT&T to meet positive and negative criteria standards under state land use laws. A height variance is also being sought, however a legal notice filed with the application did not specify the proposed height of the antenna arrays. Front and side yard setback variances are also required.<\/p>\n

A hearing on the application will be heard at the planning board’s Oct. 26 meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in the borough courtroom and council chambers.<\/p>\n
