A Seaside Heights restaurant that has gained a major following during its first year in town is looking to expand.<\/p>\n

Breakin’ Bread on the Boulevard<\/a>, an Italian restaurant that opened in 2022, pitched an initial expansion proposal to the borough’s planning board at its work session meeting this week. Breakin’ Bread, located at 115 Boulevard near Lincoln Avenue, is hoping to receive approval to renovate and open up the second floor portion of its building \u2013 formerly used as a residential space \u2013 to customers for more seating, including an outdoor deck area.<\/p>\n

Joseph M. Bimonte, attorney for the restaurant owners, said his clients would install a dumbwaiter to be able to transport supplies and dishes from floor-to-floor. The second floor would consist of 38 seats indoors and 10 seats on an outdoor deck, both of which would be accessible from an outdoor staircase. In addition to the installation of the dumbwaiter system, the upstairs restroom would be renovated to become handicap-accessible.<\/p>\n

“It is a very minor application in terms of construction,” said Bimonte.<\/p>\n

In all, the restaurant would expand to a total of 82 seats and 2,635 feet of gross floor area. The borough’s zoning code requires an off-street parking space for each 500 square foot parcel of space, for which the restaurant will be seeking relief due to its location on the Boulevard, where there is no opportunity to add off-street parking.<\/p>\n

Breakin’ Bread opened to fantastic reviews in 2022, serving home-style Italian dishes from chicken Parmesan and marsala, to specialty pasta dishes such as cavatelli and potcheese and “Old World” bolognese with rigatoni. It has scored a near-perfect “star” rating online and is now accepting reservations for Mothers’ Day and its regular dining schedule.<\/p>\n

The restaurant’s representatives will appear at the board’s next regular meeting to provide formal testimony and, presumably, ask for a vote of approval.<\/p>\n
