Seaside Park officials awarded a contract last week to an engineering firm that will be responsible for designing a major project to maintain the borough’s water tower on Decatur Avenue.<\/p>\n

“This is a somewhat large project,” said Borough Administrator Karen Kroon. “It\u2019s not just painting the exterior \u2013 it\u2019s the interior, too. The structure itself is rusted.”<\/p>\n

The Decatur Avenue water tower is one of two tanks in town \u2013 the other is located on 12th Avenue and is not part of the project under design. The tank on Decatur Avenue last underwent major maintenance in 2007, Kroon said.<\/p>\n

The borough council awarded a contract not to exceed $30,000 to RVE Engineering, the firm which submitted the lowest bid for the scope of work, which will include designing the specifications of the maintenance project and using technological equipment to survey the exterior and interior of the tank. The engineering firm’s contract does not include the physical work that will be completed after the design phase.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ll design it, we\u2019ll put it out to bid, and then we\u2019ll have meetings to determine the most qualified bidder and the costs,” said Kroon.<\/p>\n

The council awarded the contract unanimously.<\/p>\n
