Seaside Heights gained approval from its larger neighbor to subdivide two lots on the towns’ border \u2013 but within the territory of Toms River Township \u2013 which will eventually allow the empty parcels to be developed with two single-family homes.<\/p>\n

A third, smaller parcel of land will be retained by the borough since it houses the “Welcome to Seaside Heights” sign that greets visitors as they enter the borough from Route 35 in Ortley Beach.<\/p>\n

The Toms River planning board last week unanimously approved the plan to subdivide the oversized lots into two lots that conform to the township’s underlying zone. The properties are located on Dewey Drive, which runs roughly alongside the Route 35 corridor toward the borough\u2019s CVS store, but is separated from the highway by a buffer zone and curbing. Though both are on the south side of the state highway, they are located in Toms River Township, yet owned by the Borough of Seaside Heights.<\/p>\n

“We just want to return this to the tax rolls of Toms River,” said Robin La Bue, an attorney representing Seaside Heights. “The zoning in the area is single-family, and the borough will offer the property for sale consistent with the zoning.”<\/p>\n

A sidewalk will be proposed in front of the entire length when they lots are sold by Seaside Heights.<\/p>\n

“This is the missing piece that will complete that Dewey Drive development,” borough planner Nicholas Graviano said.<\/p>\n
