A redevelopment plan that received a unanimous endorsement from the borough’s planning board last week took another step forward Wednesday as the borough council concurred with the board’s finding that the plans for the property on which the development is proposed \u2013 currently a motel on the Boulevard \u2013 meets the specifications outlined by the governing body.<\/p>\n

The council \u2013 likewise, in a unanimous vote \u2013 adopted the redevelopment plan for the four lots that current house the Offshore Motel. The property, located near the intersection of the Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue, is slated to become a 24-unit townhome community that will be constructed by noted developer K. Hovnanian, whose representatives have said they intend to market the homes as a cohesive, year-round community.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Shorebeat published the first photo renderings<\/a> of what the community may look like. The motel, which shut down Sept. 30 and surrendered its operating license<\/a> under a settlement with the borough, is still standing. The same agreement called for the building to be demolished by the end of the year. The property includes the motel and an open parking area.<\/p>\n
