Lavallette will revive its annual town-wide garage sale weekend this June, after a hiatus following concerns after Superstorm Sandy struck in 2012.<\/p>\n

Previously, the garage sale would be held during a June weekend and the borough would provide a bulk pickup after the sale was over. Concerns arose after the storm that residents might use the garage sale as an opportunity to throw away storm-damaged items and construction debris, which would have cost taxpayers\u2019 money.<\/p>\n

For 2016, officials believe the storm is far enough in the rearview mirror to bring back to garage sale event \u2013 but it will not include a bulk pickup.<\/p>\n

The garage sale will be held the weekend of June 11 and 12, the second weekend of the month. In the past, the sale was held the first weekend of the month, but officials did not want it to conflict with a triathlon scheduled for that weekend this year.<\/p>\n

Mayor Walter LaCicero and council members agreed to forgo the bulk pickup out of lingering concerns over Sandy, but predicted leftover items will not be an issue since it is common for scrap collectors to scour the town after the event and haul away leftover items themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy Sunday night, there was hardly anything left out on our streets,\u201d Council President Anita Zalom said.<\/p>\n
