A large municipal lot located on the western portion of Seaside Heights will reopen to motorists this summer after being shut down in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.<\/p>\n

The lot, located off Bay Boulevard between Hamilton and Sumner avenues, was used as a staging area for storm cleanup after Sandy, with equipment also having been stored there throughout the Route 35 reconstruction project.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s state-owned, but they let us use it,\u201d said Mayor Anthony Vaz. \u201cAfter the storm they used it as a central location for the whole strip, from Point Pleasant on down. Now they\u2019re done and they\u2019re cleaning it up.\u201d<\/p>\n

At a borough council meeting Wednesday, officials learned that the state Department of Transportation would be funding a repaving of the lot, as well as restriping the parking spaces. When completed, Seaside Heights will charge $1 per hour for parking, less than the $1.50 hourly rate it charges elsewhere in town. Kiosks will be activated to accept payments.<\/p>\n
