Hundreds came out for Saturday night\u2019s Taste of the Barrier Island dinner, featuring numerous local restaurants and plenty of fun.<\/p>\n

The second annual event raised funds to support the Lavallette Volunteer Fire Department, which has already put the money raised at least year\u2019s event to good use in its recovery from damage sustained during Superstorm Sandy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were able to get their kitchen back up and running, and new floors,\u201d said Erin Ryan, who organized this year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n

Fire Chief\u00a0Arthur Reece said last year\u2019s event also helped pay for new driveway aprons outside of the firehouse. This year\u2019s event is going toward a repainting of the building\u2019s interior.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s event almost didn\u2019t happen. Last year, the Seaside Heights Rotary sponsored the event, but the group was disbanded later in 2015. That left the planning to Ryan, of Seaside Park, who volunteered her time to organize the dinner again. Her business, the Timothy E. Ryan Home of Funerals, helped sponsor the night.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe recruited Erin Ryan to fill in, and she\u2019s done a phenomenal job,\u201d Reece said.<\/p>\n

Each restaurant donated both food and staff members to help serve it.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery single person here, from the band to the food, donated,\u201d Ryan said.<\/p>\n

Businesses which donated included:\u00a0The Crab\u2019s Claw, Lenny\u2019s, Meg\u2019s, Lava Java, Hemingway\u2019s, Klees, Capriccio by the Sea, Chef Mike\u2019s ABG, Ohana Grill, Bum Rogers, Savor, Lavallette Liquors, Bubba\u2019s Burgers, Aqua Blu, Korh\u2019s and Xina.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
