A \u201ctouch-a-truck\u201d event is being planned this month at the Upper Shores branch of the Ocean County Library in Lavallette to help kick off a summer reading program sponsored by the county library system.<\/p>\n

The Summer Reading Kickoff event is scheduled for Friday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the library, located at 112 Jersey City Avenue in Lavallette.<\/p>\n

The event will feature a \u201cTouch-a-Truck\u201d attraction where children can explore fire, police and other emergency vehicles and interact with officers and other first responders. The library will also host the making of children\u2019s crafts, a chance to win prizes, and the opportunity to sign up for the library\u2019s fun summer reading program.<\/p>\n

The Kickoff\u2019s first hour will be siren-free and horn-free. There will be crafting for children and chances for all attendees to win great prizes, the library system said in an announcement.<\/p>\n

The library system is going all-out for its summer reading program in 2024. Adults, teens and children can win prizes during the Library\u2019s Summer Reading competition<\/a> through Sept. 13. Participants can track their progress through OCL\u2019s Beanstack portal<\/a>, earn digital \u201cbadges\u201d for their accomplishments, find out about branch events, and even write reviews.<\/p>\n

No registration is required for the Touch-a-Truck event. A registration form is available<\/a>, however, to help library staff coordinate how many participants are planning to attend.<\/p>\n
