Seaside Heights officials have introduced an ordinance that would codify the hours during which construction projects can be performed in the borough following a public outcry.<\/p>\n

The borough council introduced the ordinance, subject to a public hearing and second vote, at its July 3 meeting. While the borough has long had noise ordinances in place, an increase in the amount of heavy equipment in town and the number of construction crews in town has led to some complaints of too much noise early in the morning and on weekends.<\/p>\n

\u201cKenny [Roberts], our code enforcement officer, recommended this based on complaints he\u2019s received about construction in the early-morning hours and on weekends,\u201d said Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz.<\/p>\n

The ordinance permits construction between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, with no construction being permitted on Sundays. The ordinance is not aimed at stopping routine do-it-yourself projects around one\u2019s home, but rather new construction and heavy renovations that require work crews and large pieces of power equipment.<\/p>\n

The ordinance would apply year-round.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re limiting it because we\u2019ve heard concerns from the public,\u201d said Mayor Anthony Vaz. \u201cIt will be a year-round [policy]. No Sundays, and half-a-day on Saturdays.\u201d<\/p>\n

The council is scheduled to hold a public hearing and vote on the final adoption of the ordinance at its next meeting, set for July 17, 2024.<\/p>\n
