A local veteran of the Vietnam War will share stories of the conflict with local residents at the Upper Shores branch of the Ocean County Library, in Lavallette, as part of a discussion of his new book and in recognition of Veterans Day.<\/p>\n

At the height of the Vietnam conflict in 1968, Robin Bartlett volunteered to serve in the U.S. Army \u2013 a decision that altered his life and his viewpoint from then on. Bartlett ultimately went on to qualify as an Airborne soldier, undergo Ranger training and fought with the legendary 82nd Airborne Division. Stories from the war are chronicled in his book, \u201cVietnam Combat : Firefights and Writing History.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bartlett will visit the library to present \u201cBoots on the Ground: A Veterans\u2019 Day Author Visit,\u201d set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.<\/p>\n

A Distinguished Military Graduate through ROTC in college, Bartlett volunteered for infantry, airborne and Ranger service. By age 22, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant, leading 1st Platoon, A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). He led more than 60 air assaults and search-and-destroy missions before turning 23.<\/p>\n

Today, Bartlett \u2013 in addition to counting an author among his achievements \u2013 is president of the NY-NJ Chapter of the 1st Cavalry Division Association and belongs to the 82nd Airborne Division Association. He also holds a Master\u2019s degree in media from Pace University and has authored numerous business publications. \u201cVietnam Combat\u201d was first published last year.<\/p>\n
