Lavallette has added nine new parking spaces along the bayside this season \u2013 just don\u2019t create your own, or you may have to pay up.<\/p>\n

The borough council adopted an ordinance Monday night that restricts parking only to \u201cdesignated lined spaces\u201d in Municipal Parking Lots 1, 2 and 3. Those lots, respectively, are located at President Avenue and Bay Boulevard; Vance Avenue and Bay Boulevard; and Washington Avenue and Bay Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Borough officials have said during times when parking is tight, some motorists have attempted to squeeze their vehicles into areas of pavement that are unmarked. Issues arose when the spaces became too tightly-packed for other vehicles to safely enter and exit the lot areas, all of which run along the bayfront. In some cases, over the winter, the borough added parking stalls where necessary and painted lines to mark them. But with the review of the lots has come the ordinance which will be \u201cstrictly enforced,\u201d said Councilwoman Joanne Filippone. Authorized spaces are striped or otherwise marked to specifically indicate they are intended for public parking.<\/p>\n

A first violation of the ordinance will result in a summons for $50 being issued, while each subsequent offense will earn a motorist a $100 fine. Vehicles parked illegally are also subject to towing.<\/p>\n
