A plan to add more pickleball courts to Seaside Heights, while upgrading an existing basketball court, will come to fruition with work getting underway shortly. A contract calls for the work to be completed within 45 days once work begins.<\/p>\n

The borough council last week awarded a contract for the project to Eosso Brothers Paving, of Farmingdale, to complete the long-planned work at the existing basketball courts adjacent to the Hugh J. Boyd Elementary School on Bay Boulevard. Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz said, after a good deal of discussion, the plan was made to upgrade one of the basketball courts that exists at the site while converting the other to a pickleball court.<\/p>\n

There will be four purpose-built pickleball courts \u2013 not converted tennis courts \u2013 and one basketball court within the space. Some of the funding for the effort will come via a $68,000 grant that the borough received last year. Students from the school would still be able to access the area during recess and other time periods, assuming the courts were not reserved.<\/p>\n

The construction plans call for the removal of four existing basketball hoops and their concrete footings, followed by the installation of two new gooseneck-style basketball hoops and four pickleball nets with posts. The project design also calls for milling of the site, a 3-inch overlay, painting, and striping of the 1,900 square yard court surface.<\/p>\n

The entire court surface will be painted and striped for one full basketball court and four pickleball courts. The borough is also seeking supplemental bids to include the following work the removal and replacement of 525 linear feet of 6-foot-tall chain link fence, plus the installation of two new fence gates.<\/p>\n

The borough sought bids earlier this summer for the construction contract, including a clause that once\u00a0start-date is agreed-upon, the contractor will be required to complete the work in 45 days.<\/p>\n
